L2 Cache / G3 card Removal
[Return to the 1st page]

You must first remove the mother board.

We will be dealing with #7 which is the L2 cache slot. It is located just above the 2 RAM slots.

Unlike the RAM, there is no little lever to help lift out the card :( To remove the L2 cache I use a pair of pliers on one side and my fingers on the other side and lift up. A little rocking back-and-forth might help to as it is in very tight.

To install the L2 cache card just align the notches in the slot and put equal pressure on both ends at the same time. DO NOT put force which may bend the card sideways or you may damage the card or worse, your mother board cache slot! You will know when the card is installed properly when you hear a loud CLICK.

The L2 G3 cards remove and install in much the same manner. Sonnets can be removed easier then the others as it is so large that there is room to get your fingers under one end and lift up. I put another finger on the mother board connector (in a spot not touching the pins!) to help push out the card.

The G3 cards install in the same manner as L2 cache cards. Just align the notches in the slot and put equal pressure on both ends at the same time. Again, DO NOT put force which may bend the card sideways or you may damage the card or worse, your mother board cache slot! You will know when the card is installed properly when you hear a loud CLICK.

Always press the mother board reset button once installation or removal of any card is complete

reinstall in reverse order
